A historical narrative of the journey... Contemporary locations on the trail...

City of Walla Walla

Lewis and Clark took a shortcut through Walla Walla County on their return trip from the Pacific coast. At the Fort Walla Walla Museum, learn about Lewis and Clark's relationship with the Cayuse tribe, referred to as the Walla Walla people in the Corps' journals, then head over to the Whitman Mission National Historic Site for details on the fate of early missionaries. Afterward, visit one of the many nationally and internationally acclaimed wineries in the lush Walla Walla Valley.
