In the City of Toppenish exists a fun way to spend an afternoon. The self-proclaimed "City of Murals" displays over two dozen hand-painted scenes, part of an award-winning project sponsored by the Toppenish Mural Society. Brightly colored murals in the downtown corridor of Toppenish feature an "Old West" theme located on a variety of shops. Today, there are more than 65 murals depicting aspects of Toppenish history scattered on walls all over town. Visitors can catch the artists painting the western-themed scenes during “mural season” from April through October. Pick up a map of the murals at almost any store downtown and go exploring.
The Toppenish Mural Society began the program in 1989 commemorating the Washington Centennial celebration. Artists gathered to paint the first mural titled, “Clearing the Land” and began a tradition that continues to this day. Discover the rich history of the area through these impressive works of art.
