Sherman Creek Wildlife Area
Sherman Creek and adjacent wet meadows provide important open space and aquatic habitat in a dense forest of mixed conifers. White-tailed deer forage here. Watch for moose, which are expanding their range in northeast Washington; also beaver, blue and ruffed grouse, mountain chickadees, and Steller's and gray jays. Native trout live in the creek and waterfowl nest here in spring.
Sherman Creek Wildlife Area is located along the western side of Roosevelt Lake near the eastern end of the byway. Elevation in the Wildlife Area ranges from 1,289 feet to 4,600 feet and is dominated by jagged outcroppings and basalt cliffs.
