Twin Falls Natural Area in Olallie State Park
Hikers will gain a sense of the lush natural world found in Washington State while walking along the deep-forest trails in the Twin Falls Natural Area of Olallie State Park. Become awestruck by the variety of native vegetation including yellow violets, bleeding heart, coltsfoot, Indian plum, skunk cabbage, salmonberry, and sticky geranium. See the noteworthy Grandfather Tree, an old-growth Douglas Fir measuring over 14 feet in diameter; the biggest of many large old-growth trees in this forest.
The most scenic hike in the area is a two-mile journey from the lower trailhead in the state park, leading to a fantastic view of Twin Falls from the state-of-the-art bridge spanning over the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River. Continue to the overlook for impressive views of the upper falls, a series of beautiful plunge pools dropping through a narrow gorge. Visit the falls in the winter to see a thundering torrent of rushing water or a much more calm scene each spring and summer when the falls split into several peaceful braids as it makes its descent.
