Hundreds gather to watch the fireworks display over Lake Washington at Gasworks Park.

Lake Crescent

Wish you were here: this picture perfect lake is a postcard manufacturer’s dream. In the north end of the Olympic Peninsula, with Mount Storm King looming in the background, Crescent Lake is one of the Northwest’s best-kept secrets.

As a lake that some once swore was bottomless, it provides some of the best rainbow trout fishing around.  The lake is a must see, as is the historic Lake Crescent Lodge, built in 1916 as "Singers Tavern" in Olympic National Park. While allowing guests to experience the charm of a turn-of-the-century resort, the lodge is an ideal base camp for the variety of recreational activities that visitors come to the park to experience.

The surrounding area is also prime bird watching territory. American Dipper? Definitely. Plus Gray Jays, Varied Thrushes along the trail to the waterfall. Listen for warblers, flycatchers, vireos during days; Northern Pygmy, Northern Saw-whet, and Barred Owls at night. See the Olympic Loop of the Great Washington State Birding Trail.
