Cape Disappointment

Sprawling 27 miles along the Long Beach Peninsula, the dramatically beautiful Cape Disappointment captivates people with its exceptional camping, hiking, seasonal festivals and superb beachcombing.  The cape is abundant with history, from bunkers of old military forts and two authentic lighthouses to the famous Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center.

Contrary to its name, the stunning Cape Disappointment promises something for everyone.  Visitors can enjoy beachcombing and exploring the area's rich natural and cultural history.  Lewis and Clark visited here on their famous journey, and visitors can learn about their experience at the expanded Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center.  The nearby coastal towns of Ilwaco and Long Beach feature special events and festivals spring through fall.  The park offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and is a great place to sit and watch the sun lower itself into the waves.  Capping the southern flanks of the Long Beach Peninsula with sweeping views over the infamous Graveyard of the Pacific, Cape Disappointment looks over dangerous coastal waters that have claimed hundreds of ships.  Trails here meander through old-growth forest and beside driftwood designed shoreline.  Two historic lighthouses and the renowned Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center vie with nature's draws for travelers' time.
