For a few days of simplicity, visit the Douglas Fir Campground beautifully situated alongside the North Fork of the Nooksack River. The campground was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corp as part of the national project that created many of the trails and parks present today.
For a dose of outdoor adventure, take nearby Horseshoe Bend Trail offering a winter wonderland of cross-country skiing in the winter and a scenic hike in the spring and summer months. It’s an easy forest trek along a raging whitewater section of the Nooksack River. Or maybe some good-old fashioned storytelling around the campfire and evening s’mores are what you seek.
