Positioned between Canyon Creek and the North Fork of the Nooksack River, Church Mountain offers popular trails boasting views of splendid mountains, rocky cliffs and clear alpine lakes. The mountain rises steeply from a 1,200 feet elevation at its base, to a summit of 6,245 feet in less than two miles.
Hike to the summit – it’s well worth the trek looking down at the winding Frasier River Valley and the neighboring mountains of Mt. Baker and the Canadian Border Peaks, among others. Climb up through the forest and alpine meadows to a former lookout site at the top. Watch for colorful wildflowers and whistling marmots near the trail on your way up. Trails on the southern slope of Church Mountain are some of the first in the area to open for summer hiking. Keep your eye out for daring individuals whitewater rafting their way through the fast moving water emanating from the glaciers of Mt. Shuksan.
