Nooksack Falls

Just a short distance from the Mt. Baker Highway, not far from the town of Deming, travelers can get a peek at one of the most popular falls in the North Cascades.  Plunging 88 feet in three separate segments, Nooksack Falls is gorgeous year-round and a favorite destination for photographers.  Fed from the headwaters of the North Fork of the Nooksack River, which begins on the glaciated slopes of Mt. Shuksan, the channel narrows as the river fights its way through the forest, with the trees safely anchored on harder rock.  Suddenly the glacial runoff bursts out into the blue sky plummeting over Nooksack Falls.
View the falls from the forested cover near the cliff’s edge.  In the summer, drive a short distance off the highway parking just before the bridge.  During the winter, snowshoers and Nordic skiers can make the short trip from the highway.  The falls are located not far from the historic Mt. Baker mining district, which produced more than 5,000 claims between 1890 and 1937.
