Town of Ione

The lazy, north-flowing Pend Oreille River flows through Ione en route to Canada, where it meets the mighty Columbia. A scenic and recreational haven, the area also hosts one of Washington’s most unusual races every July when snowmobiles speed across the river with hope of making it to the other side. Founded in 1894, the town of Ione is nestled between the Pend Oreille River and forested peaks of the Selkirk Range. Ione is a small community that retains its “Frontier Charm” that attracted people to the area. Ione offers an easy access to recreational activities on the river.
