Smallest of the 3 upriver towns, the town of Metaline is the oldest white settlement in the valley. Early settlement is credited to gold prospectors of the 1860’s. Although the first settlement washed away, the town was rebuilt in 1909 on higher ground on the west side of the river next to Mt. Linton. Metaline's charming park slopes to the river’s edge and is often the center of community activities.
