The last stop, and just a few miles from the Nelway crossing of the Canadian/U.S. border, Metaline Falls was established in the early 1900’s as a mining and timber town. When those economies declined in the 1970’s, the community became a regional center for culture and art. It was voted one of the “100 Best Small Art Towns in America” in 1996 and is a winner of the Governor’s Award for small arts communities. From the historic buildings, festivals and events to the seasonal Lion’s Club train ride, the residents love the small-town atmosphere (as well as sharing it with byway travelers!)
