Penn Cove

Mussels are the pride of Penn Cove, along with history and beauty.  Nineteenth century sea captains called the beautiful waters a “Garden of Eden,” and the Historical District of Coupeville located on its shores stands out as one of Washington’s oldest and most endearing towns.  Cafes, antique shops and Victorian homes sit nestled along the waterfront, as they have for decades.

The Madrona trees lining the roadway have an almost human skin, red and peeling, but smooth and strong, with bright green crowns of evergreen leaves. They intertwine their twisting arms along the road, with cool blue Penn Cove glimmering behind. Today Penn Cove is known world-wide for its delectable mussels. The waters of the cove collect nutrients from the Skagit and Stillaguamish Rivers, which along with a good mix of sunny days provide an idyllic environment for the largest and oldest shellfish farm in the country.
