Fort Ebey State Park

400 Hill Valley Dr Coupeville, WA USA

What once served as a coastal defense spot during World War II now serves outdoor adventure lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.  Fort Ebey State Park features 28 miles of trails showing off stunning views of the Olympic Peninsula.  For those looking for a thrill, there’s paragliding, surfing and scuba diving off the coast.

Fort Ebey is one in a series of coastal defense forts built near the northern end of Puget Sound to defend the west coast during World War II. Remnants of the original fort are found in concrete platforms marking gun locations. The park offers three miles of saltwater shoreline on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, a freshwater lake for fishing, and miles of trails for hiking and biking. Besides the military history, the views from the bluff are spectacular, looking out across the Strait of Juan De Fuca to the Olympic Mountains. On the beach, massive logs lie like thistle sticks from a world of giants. The green and tan of the grass and sand stand against the aluminum blue of the sea unfurling on the shore.  For more information, visit Fort Ebey State Park.
