Hundreds gather to watch the fireworks display over Lake Washington at Gasworks Park.

Deception Pass State Park

Its allure is not deceiving, though time could be for those who come to Deception Pass.  It’s easy for the hours to fly by when surrounded by such distinguished beauty.  Rugged cliffs, old growth forests, abundant wildlife including 174 species of birds and unprecedented views define the park, and campers enjoy miles of both saltwater and freshwater shorelines, two outdoor amphitheaters and superb fishing in Cranberry Lake.

Deception Pass is one of those state parks in Washington that would be a national park in most states.  View bald eagles, silver waters, natural beaches, Madrona, Douglas firs, and a spectacular suspension bridge over a fjord. At this narrow, swirling passage, the road leaves Whidbey Island and the park continues on the other side of the pass.  Scuba diving is available for advanced divers, but is highly dangerous without local knowledge due to extreme currents.  For more information, visit Deception Pass State Park.
