Deming/Logging Show Grounds
About nine miles down the Mt. Baker Highway see the Deming Logging Show Grounds. A festival celebrating the traditions of loggers in the Northwest is held annually on these grounds during the second week of June. Standing center stage are log rolling pits and tall poles that lumberjacks race up to be the first to ring the bell.
Stunts like ax throwing, hot chainsaw bucking and log rolling are sure to keep an audience’s full attention. Watch loggers demonstrate both modern and historic methods of logging. Check out the blacksmith exhibit and see logging equipment from generations new and old. In existence for more than 40 years, proceeds from the event go to those in logging communities who have been injured while on the job. Close by is the Nooksack River Bridge, obviously a great fishing spot as evidenced by the number of regular visitors trying their luck.
