St Mary's Mission (Colville Indian Reservation)
The byway passes through the 1.3 million acre reservation of Confederated Tribes of the Colville Indians. The reservation is home to many historical sites and cultural activities. One highlight is the Sun Flower festival, held each May at Paschal Sherman Indian School located at St. Mary’s Mission. The Mission was established in 1886 on Omak Creek by Jesuit Father DeRouge. The church, with its beautiful gardens and original altars brought from France, was dedicated in 1915. Also at the site is the beautiful Omak Longhouse, a tribal meeting place.
