Lime Kiln Point State Park

Watch orca whales cruise the pristine waters and see bald eagles soar majestically across the sky.  Located on San Juan Island across from Friday Harbor, Lime Kiln State Park sits among the rocky coastline cliffs along Haro Strait.  Known also as Whale Watch State Park, it’s home to a one of the prime spots for orca viewing in the San Juans and beyond.  Peak whale watching season is May through September, with June and July being the best months for viewing. 

Tour Lime Kiln Lighthouse, which was built in 1919 and overlooks the coastline that today is part of a whale sanctuary and research station manned by marine mammal scientists.  Interpreters are available for history talks and offer marine mammal programs during the summer months.  Walk the self-guided interpretive trail, and watch for the many birds that call this park home.  For divers, excellent spots are available from coves on either side of the lighthouse.
