Douglas County’s economic hub is emerging as a player in Washington’s renowned wine industry. A mural, pagoda, reflecting pond and magnificent garden are all part of East Wenatchee’s Bridge of Friendship Japanese Garden, a tribute to the first transpacific flight which landed here in 1931.
Two miles above the 550-foot-high walls of America’s largest concrete dam, the town of Grand Coulee is the area’s supply point, with grocery stores, restaurants and various shops for those that want to hike, bike, boat or fish on the dam’s 155-mile backwater, Lake Roosevelt.
