Coupeville

Historic Coupeville rests upon the shores of Penn Cove, internationally recognized for its prized mussels. The second-oldest town in Washington also draws folks to its Victorian-era homes, fine downtown dining, eclectic shops, the Island County Museum and self-guided history walks.

This entire picturesque town is at the heart of Ebey’s National Historic Reserve. Founded in 1852 by Sea Captain Thomas Coupe who was drawn to the placid waters of Penn Cove, the 19th Century buildings have been preserved along with a simple beauty. The historic pier looks back on antique stores and eateries nestled along the waterfront. Great blue herons sit like folded old men on wharf posts, then spread their wings and, with a single flap, glide to a distant perch.
