Seattle

The best lie about Seattle is its stigma as the “rainy city.”  Seattleites are the first to point out that they get less rain than New York City, Miami, Boston, San Francisco and other reasonably top U.S. cities. Seattle summers are among the best in the country and attract visitors from far and wide who come to see the famous Space Needle, Pike Place Market and Fremont Troll.

Celebrate summer at Seattle's Seafair this June and July! Stare in amazement at the Navy's Blue Angels acrobatic flying maneuvers, watch the hydroplanes race across Lake Washington, and don't miss the much-loved Torchlight Parade!  The inaugural Rock n' Roll Marathon (and 1/2 marathon) kicks off this year's Seafair celebration with a musically themed running race. The 26.2 and 13.1-mile courses will run past many of Seattle's famous attractions, including Lake Washington, Seward Park, Lake Union, Puget Sound near Elliott Bay and the Space Needle. If the weather is clear, expect some stunning views of Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker and the Olympic Mountains. The race features local live bands and cheerleaders along the courses at each mile.

If you are a fan of spectator sports, you can always find an event within the city and should never miss the excitement of live sports in Seattle. Catch the Seattle Mariners this season at Safeco Field -- rain or shine! Seattle's newest professional team, the Seattle Sounders soccer team, are now playing at Qwest Field -- the official home turf for the Seattle Seahawks.

If spending time outdoor suits you best, seize the day at any of Seattle’s hundreds of public parks, or the sandy Alki Beach in West Seattle.  Head north to Discovery Park or Golden Garden's beach front playgrounds. Depending on what time of the year you visit, you’re sure to bask in all the wonders Seattle has to offer.

With distinct neighborhoods like Fremont and Wallingford, you can feel at home with the overwhelming community atmosphere, or disappear between the tall buildings in downtown Seattle.  Escape to Crystal Mountain or nearby Steven’s Pass to ride the overwhelming fresh powder that falls each year in the mountains. If you find yourself coming to see the “grunge” of Seattle, make sure to check out the Experience Music Project or any number of live music venues. The birthplace of music icons such as Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam, Seattle has many ways to rock any visitor’s world.

And if that isn’t enough of what Seattle has to offer to keep you busy, make sure to take time to explore the History of Seattle.
