Hells Canyon is the deepest gorge in North America (deeper than the Grand Canyon). The Hanford Reach is the only section of the Columbia River that remains in its natural state, as it has not been impacted by dams. The Reach is accessible by boat and offers prime viewing of the land's true residents: white pelicans, osprey, mountain goats, elk, bobcat, river otters, and eagles. Ancient people's lives are evidenced in the petroglyphs carved into rocks along the river’s edge. Tours run May through October; contact Beamers Tours and Excursions at 800-522-6966 or visit
