Jet Boat on Snake River
Lewis and Clark entered Washington via the Snake River, east of a town named Clarkston. This point is near the Alpowai Interpretive Center (509-758-9580), where visitors can learn about the explorers’ relationship with Chief Timothy of the Nez Perce. Alpowai is located in Chief Timothy State Park and features exhibits and audio/visual programs depicting the geologic and human history of this region.

Hells Canyon Resort’s marina offers jetboat tours of North America's deepest river gorge. Rooster’s Landing Restaurant has a magnificent view of the Snake River. The Lewis and Clark Timeline, a 300-foot concrete display at Hells Canyon, tracks the Expedition from St. Louis to the Pacific with dates, illustrations and other items carved by hand into the sidewalk. Call the Clarkston Chamber of Commerce (800-933-2128) for details.
