Visiting wine country in October generally conjures up visions of grape vines laden with crisp ripe grapes, workers cutting fruit from the vine by hand, and a new vintage of wine – just around the corner. This year, Yakima Valley wineries have added a new dimension to wine country harvest. Savor the Art features a combination of art and wine - providing visitors another aspect of wine country touring.

Savor the Art is Wine Yakima Valley’s inaugural wine and art pairing event. Thirty seven artists from all over Washington State have paired with Yakima Valley wineries to display their art in the tasting rooms of Yakima Valley / Red Mountain wineries. The event will create an artisan’s atmosphere throughout all of wine country. Visitors can sample and purchase wine and art throughout the month of October.

Art pieces include an array of water color, fiber arts, raku pottery, photography, mixed media, sculpture, metal sculpting, glass sculpting, and collage to mention just a few. These art forms will be available for viewing and purchase during the month of October. Thumbnail samples of each artists work and his/her winery partner are available online at www.chriswalling.com/savortheart.

Each participating artist will display a one-of-a-kind art piece incorporating cork from his/her partnering winery. All one-of-a-kind pieces will be available for purchase during a month-long auction in the tasting rooms of participating wineries.

The goal of Savor the Art is to focus on developing awareness of the Yakima Valley wine industry among Pacific Northwest residents and to celebrate the completion (or near completion) of harvest. This event showcases the marriage of art and wine while enhancing the development and understanding of diverse art forms and awareness of the breadth of cultural life in the Eastern Washington.
