LONG BEACH, Wash.- The Northwest's signature beach event, the Washington State International Kite Festival, promises to light up the skies and canvas the beach with family recreation from August 15 through 21 on the Long Beach Peninsula. Succeeding 24 years of fun-filled festivals, this year's event promises to entertain kite enthusiasts en masse.

Recently voted the 'Best Kite Festival in the World' by the Kite Trade Association International, the week-long event includes kite flying and design competitions, fighter kites, fireworks, exhibitions, a patriotic red, white, and blue flight display, food, music and much, much more. Friday heralds two attempts to break the world record for mass ascensions as well as a magical lighted night fly.

This year's Featured Flyers will contribute more visual excitement and variety. Robert Valkenburgh, a master of kite design and wind instruments, will grace the celebration with his artistic and musical expertise. Japanese kite-maker and Edo-kite Preservation Society Member, Edodako Hozonkai, will display traditional kites and kite flying techniques.

For detailed events, Featured Flyer biographies, and a full schedule of activities please access www.kitefestival.com.

With wide sandy beaches and coastal breezes, Long Beach has been called the Kite Capital of the U.S. Kite shops, resident kite flyers, and the beloved World Kite Museum provide enjoyment for kite aficionados and first-time flyers alike.
