Tour this scenic mountain highway and its surrounding landscape, a solid line of snowcapped mountains, crags of gray rock that frame your vision, and a fascinating patchwork of fields and trees. The Interstate 90 Greenway corridor is the only interstate highway to be designated as a National Scenic Byway in America. The Greenway curves around powerful rivers, clear mountain lakes and historic towns, all within a 90-minute drive from Seattle.
LOCALS SUGGEST:
- A favorite year-round hiking destination along the 125-mile Greenway is Mount Si. A strenuous four-mile walk reaches the summit above 4,000 feet.
- Bicyclists don winter woolies in summer to brave a trek through the Snoqualmie Tunnel, a 2.5 mile-long abandoned railway line. Stripped of rails and pitch black inside (flashlights needed), this tunnel thrills and chills in its dank interior. The sunlight at the end of the tunnel breaks into beautiful forestland that continues for miles along the John Wayne/Iron Horse trail traversing the Greenway.
