Issaquah Salmon Hatchery
Overview
The historic Issaquah Salmon Hatchery was completed in 1937. Each year the hatchery traps spawning salmon as they return to Issaquah Creek. Their eggs are collected, fertilized, incubated, hatched and reared until they're ready to migrate to salt water and reach adulthood, after which they return back to Issaquah and the hatchery, thus completing The Salmon Life Cycle.
The hatchery is open year-round. Autumn is the most active viewing time when adult chinook and coho salmon return to the hatchery. Chinook typically arrive in September thru mid-October. Coho arrive late September thru late November. A few Sockeye salmon also return. The hatchery also raises a limited number of Kokanee and Rainbow Trout.
Live viewing year round. Docent lead tours for parties of 12 or more available by appointment year round. Drop in tours on fall weekends at 11 am and 1 pm. Gift Shop open on weekends Labor Day thru mid-November.
